AMC Trio is the internationally most successful Slovak jazz band, known for collaborations with Ulf Wakenius and Randy Brecker. Mark Whitfield is an American hard bop and soul-jazz guitarist, known for his recordings as bandleader for both the Verve and Warner Bros. record labels
The music of AMC Trio draws on a variety and neat tuniness of the treated themes inspired for example by pop tunes or east Slovakia folk music, too. AMC Trio is not a one leader trio but the trio of three equal members, whose particularities brought together form one well-balanced whole.
AMC Trio has cooperated with many known musicians. Since 2007 AMC Trio cooperates with a guitar virtuoso, member of Oscar Peterson Quartet, Ulf Wakenius, with whom they have recorded two albums "Soul Of The Mountain" (2008) and "Waiting For A Wolf" (2011).
In 2012 AMC have started a cooperation with legendary trumpet player, four times Grammy winner Randy Brecker and their album "One Way Road To My Heart" released in 2013 has been awarded with Radio Heads Awards as the best jazz album in Slovakia.
Mark Whitfield has worked with Jack McDuff, Jimmy Smith, Courtney Pine and Nicholas Payton, Chris Botti, among others. Upon graduation in Boston, he returned to his native New York to embark on a career as a jazz guitarist that afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with many artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Clark Terry, Jimmy Smith, Carmen McRae, Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, Jack McDuff, Betty Carter, Shirley Horn, Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, Burt Bacharach, Joe Williams, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Stanley Turrentine and his greatest teacher and mentor George Benson.
Along the way, the New York Times dubbed Whitfield "The Best Young Guitarist in the Business" and in September 1990 Warner Bros. released his solo debut, "The Marksman". The success of this release has led to a recording career that has produced 14 solo projects to date and collaborative efforts with important artists in recent years: Sting, D'Angelo, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, John Mayer, Jill Scott, Roy Hargrove, Diana Krall, Lauryn Hill, Sy Smith and Chris Botti.
