Bia Ferreira is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who defines her music as "Black Women's Music - Música de Mulher Preta". She is an original artist who adds elements of soul, reggae, blues, funk, R&B and gospel to her main inspiration, Brazilian jazz.
Her mother is a singer, choir conductor, pianist and singing teacher, and has guided Bea to sing and play the piano from an early age. But early in her career, Bia Ferreira definitely switched to guitar as her main instrument. The talented multi-instrumentalist is actively proficient in 24 other musical instruments, such as electric bass, cavaquinho, atabaque, djembe and drums. While still a teenager, she traveled all over Brazil alone with her guitar - spreading messages of love and singing about freedom of speech, feminism, racism and homophobia.
She recorded her first song "Cota Não É Esmola" in 2011, but it didn't become a huge hit until seven years later. It was then released as a single from her debut, acoustic live album, released on the Sofar Sounds label. The song's lyrics, meanwhile, are required reading at three Brazilian universities, boasting tens of millions of plays and streams.
Bia Ferreira has released two studio albums in the last six years. She is a top star in Brazil, but actively performs around the world - she was a sensation at Womex 2022, North Sea Jazz 2023 and Global Fest New York in 2024, among others.
