The Comet Is Coming, Kamaal Williams and Kokoroko - these music legends and stars from the London scene, recognized all over the world, will be performing in Bratislava in October. These are the first names of this year's Bratislava Slovak Savings Bank Jazz Days, which will take place from 20 to 22 October in Bratislava's A4 Studio. Tickets are already on sale in the Ticketportal network. 

The headliner of Friday night is the London band The Comet is Coming, led by the brilliant saxophonist Shabak Hutchings. The trio of saxophone, keyboards and drums mixes jazz and funk with electronic music and psychedelic rock: the result is almost cosmic jazz, inspired by greats like Sun Ra and Alice Coltrane. The Comet Is Coming has been active for 10 years, but they recently announced the end of the project, so the Bratislava show will be one of their last. 

Bristol-based pianist and producer Kamaal Williams started his career with Yussef Dayes, who was featured on the jazz festival last year. After their mega-successful joint project Yussef Kamaal, Williams decided to pursue a solo career, and after two studio albums, The Return and Wu Hen, he will release a third this autumn. According to Kamaal, the new Stings release will also surprise by adding oriental music to the list of musical influences. Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, J Dilla, Miles Davis, Jamiroquai, Roy Ayers, and boombap hip-hop are already on the list. Kamaal Williams is also known for the fact that improvisation gets a lot of space in his concerts - despite his many influences, this is full-blooded jazz.

Sunday's festival evening will culminate in a concert by London-based Kokoroko. The group mixes the gospel music of West Africa with jazz and the sounds of the dance scene. It's a unique, quintessential London sound, with each member bringing their own colourful musical background. The common denominator is a love of afrobeat and highlife, and its protagonists such as Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, and King Sunny Ade, but the influence of 1970s Harlem is also strongly present in Kokoroko's production. The rhythm is dominant, even in solos and improvisations. Sunday's headliner of the Bratislava Jazz Days, Slovenská sporiteľňa, brings to our festival an unbridled vivacity combined with brilliant musicality and an irresistible sound that represents both the roots and the future of jazz.
